Interpreter of Sacred Music

Sacred chants accompany all stages of life and death, the celebration of a marriage or a funeral. Each religion accompanies its liturgy with music: hymns, cantatas, oratorios, masses.

Louis Puthod likes to be a part of such moments of intense emotion and he interprets with the organist Anne Mentrier the well-known Ave Maria of Caccini, Schubert, Gounod; the Agnus Dei of Bizet or the Panis Angelicus of Franck.

The baritone soli in the Requiem of Brahms, Fauré, and Duruflé also offer soothing passage to the hereafter.

But he also enjoys making his public discover veritable gems such as the Ave Maria by Cherubini, Rossini, Verdi, Massenet, Mascagni; the Ave Verum by Chausson; or Biblical Chants by Dvorak; The Crucifixion by Barber; and A Simple Song from Bernstein’s Mass.

The Hebraic songs by Ravel, Meyerke, Kadish, are a time of deep reflection about life and death; and the Negro Spirituals are always well-received by the audience.

A concert of Sacred Music might also include melodies such as En Prière – In Prayer or Les berceaux – Cradles by Fauré; the Chanson de la mariée - The Song of the Bride or Là-bas vers l’église - Yonder by the Church by Ravel; and classical and baroque airs such as Vergin tutto amor or Amarilli by Durante and Cara sposa or Ombra mai fù by Handel.
